The best road Cycling in Voralberg (north), Austria

Voralberg, in the westernmost corner of Austria, offers everything any cycling is craving for: winding mountain roads, cute little villages, and spectacular alpine views. The entire region is a heaven for road and gravel cycling, combining challenging routes with incredible landscapes. In this blog, we’ll share our long weekend experience with some routes recommendations.

Road cycling Routes in Voralberg (north part)

Let’s start with the juicy part, the road cycling routes!

My personal favourite first. This loop takes you to Germany, through a spectacular road (for a big part closed to cars) in the middle of national park and back via the Riedbergpass. Be aware the Riedbergpass from the east side is a beast with gradients of up to 16%, be ready or take the look from the west side.

The Austrian Furka Pass! In reality it’s the Furkajoch Pass.

If you are looking for a challenging day with some nice mountain climbing, this is the route for you. With 2 nice passes: Furkajoch and the Losenpass! Over 2000m of elevation in little less than 90km.

Finally a scenic road through some typical green fields, nice forests and the beautiful town of Oberstaufen. Make sure to stop for a nice slice of cake and coffee at the Blaues Haus!

Hiking in Voralberg

You have endless options to hike in Voralberg and most hotels have guides with the best routes in the area. One place I highly recommend it Schönenbach. It’s a beautiful little village with a couple of house, a restaurant and beautiful white Chapel.

Another highlight of the regios is the Rappenloch Gorge. You’ll find sharp cliffs, waterfalls, and wooden walkways. It’s a short hike but lot’s of natural beauty into a small area.
