What do cyclist value the most when booking an accommodation?

There is no perfect accommodation that fit all cyclists and occasions that for sure. But.there are a few things that all cyclist value and can be a deal breaker if the hotel or airbnb you are staying doesn’t have it. What’s that must for you?

Many companies have done surveys to rank what are the most important factors when it come to the accommodation. But in the end it all depends… Are you traveling with friends or with your family? Are you going for a race? are you staying the same place for a day or a week?

We recently read a survey shared by Cycling Friendly with top 5 things cyclist value:

  1. The location. being close to the routes you’ve planned is a big plus. But there many other point of interest that we value. After a good ride you still want to explore the area you traveled too. We normally try to stay in a reasonable distance to the routes but staying close to restaurants and landmarks of the region.

  2. Accommodation infrastructure. Cycling Friendly claims this is the second most important thing for cyclists and that Cycling Centers at the hotel have become a must. To be honest, I only need to have a place where I can store my bike safely.

  3. The price. Not a surprise, we would all like to travel without having to think about the price of the accommodation but I guess the majority of us can’t… But with the amount of options out there, I’m sure you can afford going cycling almost anywhere.

  4. Healthy food options. This is for me number 2! When we travel with the bike we love to discover new restaurants and foods. Having a good rest and refuelling is crucial to enjoy your trip, specially if you are doing multiple days of cycling.

  5. Facilities for children. A lot of cyclist travel with their families. Or we could say that when families go travelling, they might want to bring the bike along.

But at the end of the day it all depends on your specific needs. But here is a few things you should check before you book an hotel.

For us is a combination of 3 things and we’ve always been very happy with the places we’ve stayed.

  1. Secure storage for your bike is available. A lot of hotels offer it but are very bad at displaying it online. Just give them a quick call.

  2. Location. For us is a mix of Routes and Restaurants and things to do after our rides

  3. Reviews. Don’t always trust the pictures! anything looks good on insta but real reviews are a good validations of a nicely presented accommodation!

If you are in the search for an accommodation, check our destinations guide! We’ve listed the hotels we stayed or trusted cyclist have and have recommended it.
