Road Cycling Around Zurich Lake

This is not the typical road cycling round the lake route where you mostly have flat roads. This route will challenge you more but will bring you through beautiful forest areas, farms and cultivated fields. But the most importantly, it will end with Gelato!

Distance: 72 km

We started at Bellevue Platz and headed directly to the Gold Coast side of the lake until Küsnacht where we go up to our first little ascent of the day. The road will bring you to a combination of forest, fields, farms and view of both lakes Zurichsee and Greifensee before heading to Rapperswill.

The road is mostly quite, but you will encounter other cyclist and motor bikers as is a popular road for people from Zurich looking for a quick escape from the city. We will ready Pfannenstiel, which is the highest point of east side of the lake.

First stop, the medieval alleys of Rapperswill. Is worth slowing down and discover its rose gardens and Castle before crossing to the other side of the lake. The town is filled with nice restaurants and coffeeshop perfect to recharge before tackling the other side of the lake.

The bridge crossing has a cycling lane, don’t worry about the amount of cars. Once you reach Pfäffikon we followed most of the Route 32. The road will lead you trough fields and farms via secondary roads.

After a long ride is time for the reward! The perfect cycling day need a good coffee and a nice brunch! Check out our sister blog for the Best Brunch in Zürich and finish your day with a healthy and tasty meal. We usually go to Bank, but they are all good!
