Road Cycling Route: Peralada - Port de la Selva - Castello d'empuries

Costa Brava has an endless possibilities for cycling, from road cycling to gravel and mountain bike. Probably the first thing that will come to your mind is Beach destination, but Costa Brava has a rich history and cultural heritage. It’s very well known by his medieval towns.

This Route starts in Peralada, a little medieval village with a stunning Castel. The first 20km are mostly a rolling flat through some Cava Vineyards and olive trees. Once you are warmed it’s the first and most challenging climb pf the route that will lead you to the Coastal village of Port de la Selva. This is one of the most amazing mountain passes I’ve done, it’s not too difficult but the views and the road is incredible. The descend is specially beautiful with amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea, the stunning “Monasterio de Sant Pere de Rodes” and the white town of Port de la Selva.

From Port de la Selva we head back taking the popular road of Cadaques. If you want to make this route a bit more challenging, add a stop in Cadaques. This little costal town is one of the most beautiful places of Costa Brava.

After a nice descent to Empuria Brava, it’s time to enjoy the last Mediaval Town: Castello d’Empuries. It’s Gothic church, Santa Maria, dates back to the 14th century and is very well-preserved. From there you just have a nice flat-out 10km back to Peralada.
