Road cycling route: Sella Ronda

You can't go cycling in the Dolomites without including the Sella Ronda on your list. It's probably the most famous route you can undertake, and the reasons are obvious: the roads, the scenery, and the passes are a dream for any cycling aficionado. The Sella Ronda is a circular route covering approximately 55 kilometers and featuring four legendary mountain passes: Passo Campolongo, Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella, and Passo Gardena. Each pass has its unique charm.

Our route starts in San Cassiano, were we stayed and we did the clockwise route, starting with the Passo Campolongo.

Passo Campolongo

The first pass, Passo Campolongo starts in the charming town of Corvara. At 1,875 meters, it's the shortest of the four passes, perfect warm up into the ride. As you ascend, you'll be surrounded by the picturesque alpine scenery and quaint villages that make this region so special.

Passo Pordoi

After descending from Passo Campolongo, you'll soon arrive at Passo Pordoi, the highest pass on the Sella Ronda at 2,239 meters. The climb is challenging but worth every pedal stroke. The view of the Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites, and the surrounding glacier-clad summits, is a sight to behold.

Passo Sella

Leaving Passo Pordoi behind, you'll tackle Passo Sella next, at 2,218 meters and the beautiful backgroung of the Sella Group, a striking massif of the Dolomites.

Passo Gardena

The final pass of the Sella Ronda is Passo Gardena. With an elevation of 2,121 meters it's a gradual climb with winding roads through lush green meadows and dense pine forests.

Route details

It’s definetly one of our faviourite routes in the Dolomites. It’s a challengin one, as you have to tackle 4 mountain passes but anyone with a little bit of training will be able to have a great time.
