Road cycling Route: Limone sul Garda - Arco - Strada della forra
We’re always on the lookout for new and exciting routes to explore. We recently spend the weekend in Tremosine sul Garda on the west shore of Lake Garda in Italy and we cycled one of the most amazing roads so far: the famous Strada della Forra. All the region is full of cyclists with endless possibilities for road and mountain biking.
Here is the route we did starting from Tremosine sul Garda region, cycling through Limosine sul Garda, Arco and back to Tremosine to climb the highlight of the route, the Strada della Forra.
We started in Pieve, a little village with a stunning view over Lake Garda. If you are looking for accommodation, we highly recommend the hotel we stayed: Locanda al Castelleto. They have space to store your bike and the rooms are super nice.
From Pieve, we cycled through several villages and towns in the heart of Tremosine sul Garda, including Villa, Vesio, and Arias. Nestled among breathtaking mountains, dense forests, and with incredible views of the lake, this region offered a beautiful backdrop for our ride.
From here we descended to Limone sul Garda a charming lakeside town known for its lemon groves and narrow streets. It’s one of the cutest towns in Lake Garda and it’s worth a visit. It’s also a great place to stay or come for lunch or diner.
Continuing from Limone, we followed the lakeside road to Arco, which provided breathtaking views of the lake and featured tunnels carved into the rocks. However, it's important to note that this road can be busy, so we recommend avoiding high seasons and rush hours. Additionally, having a reliable bike light is crucial as some tunnels lack proper lighting.
Arco is another must in the area and a top destination for climbers. It has an ancient castle perched atop a cliff that you can visit. We visited the day before and it has a fantastic view over the surrounding landscapes and the route :) . This town has also a lot restaurants and bars to refuel before heading back to the lake. There are plenty of routes starting from here if you decide to stay in this area.
From Arco we cycled back along the lake until the Strada della Forra. Definetly this road was the highlight of the route. It’s carved into the rocky cliffs overlooking Lake Garda, with hairpin turns and stunning view over Lake Garda. The road has been featured in several movies like the famous James Bond “Quantum of Solace”.
