Road Cycling Zurich Lake - 3 alternatives

Living in Zurich, cycling around Zurich lake is unavoidable and a must if you are visiting. There are many variants, from the flat out variant along the lakeside to the countryside version which will take you through farms, vineyards, and many cows fields. No matter what route you take, cycling around the lake is definitely a beautiful way to spend your day.

On top of great roads, one of the best parts is that the road is full of great places to stop for a coffee, lunch or for a dip in the lake.

Here are the 3 variants of lake zurich round:

The Scenic Countryside route

This road takes you through beautiful farms, little towns and beautiful landscapes with the lake in the back. The road has a few climbs but anyone with a little of training will have a blast.

The Flat out route

Simply ride along the lake side. The road is flat and perfect for a flat out session and is usually full of triathletes training.

The Full lap Route

Most routes along Zurich lake actually are cutting the last part of the lake by crossing from Rapperswil to Pfäffikon. This route is almost 100km and will take you until the end of Zurich lake through the country side.

Best spots to stop around the lake:

  • Rare Street Coffee, our favourite stop. Perfect place to stop for a coffee a home baked piece of cake or a “rich toast” (the L.A.X. is the best!)

  • Fischers Fritz a bit fancy sometimes but still a great place to stop for a drink and nice meal before heading into Zurich. The terrace on the lake gets super busy in summer.

  • Schiffstation beautiful biergarten with a grill perfect to grab a sausage and a drink.

  • Monocle in the heart of Seefeld in Zurich, this bar serves coffee and some food all day long. Great and super friendly people.

  • Portofino serves great pizza and has a super cozy terrace in front of the lake.
