The Zurich to Greifensee and Pfannenstiel road cycling route is a great way to see Zurich surroundings. The route starts in the city center, then heads out to the suburbs of Zurich before reaching the countryside. The route then loops around Lake Greifensee before heading to Pfannenstiel and back into the city along Zurich Lake.

The route is mostly flat, with two hills along the way to cross to the Greifensee "valley". The scenery is beautiful, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the views. There are also several restaurants and cafes along the route, so you can refuel as needed.

This route is perfect for a day trip from Zurich, or for a longer ride if you have more time. It's a great way to see everything that Zurich has to offer, while getting some exercise at the same time!

What to see along the way

There are plenty of things to see along the route from Zurich to Greifensee. The scenery changes quite a bit, so there is always something new to look at. Here are a few highlights:

-Lake Zurich: The route goes right past Lake Zurich, so make sure to take in the stunning views. If you're feeling ambitious, you can even cycle around the lake (it's about 65km).

-Greifensee: This pretty little lake is a great place to take a break and enjoy the view. There are also some nice restaurants and cafes along the shore if you need a pick-me-up.

-Pfannenstiel: This is the highest point on the route, and from here going down towards Zurich you'll have panoramic views of the lake.

Where to stop for a break

If you're road cycling around Zurich, then you'll definitely want to make a stop at Greifensee. This beautiful lake is perfect for a quick break and to enjoy the stunning scenery. There are also a few restaurants and cafes nearby if you're looking for something to eat or drink.

Pfannenstiel is another great spot for a break. This small pic has some lovely views of the surrounding countryside. It's the perfect place to rest your legs and refuel before heading down on the rest of your journey.

Before reaching Zurich, on top of Herrliberg you have a great restaurant with traditional Swiss cuisine in a beautiful old building. A true swiss experience and the perfect way to “finish” your cycling day. The good thing is from here you only have a few kilometres left and mostly downhill or flat
