This route takes you through some of the most beautiful countryside around Zurich. You’ll ride past fields of flowers, wine, quaint villages, and stunning vistas. The route will pass the beautiful "Rhine Falls"! So put on your cycling helmet and join us on this amazing journey!

The Zurich - Schaffhausen - Zurich road cycling route is a popular choice for cyclists. If you are looking to explore the Swiss countryside this is a great choice.

The route takes you through some picturesque scenery in Switzerland, with rolling hills, green fields and mountain views. The route is also relatively flat, making it ideal for cyclists of all abilities.

Starting in Zurich, the route heads north towards Schaffhausen. Riders will pass through the quaint villages of Freienstein and Flaach before reaching the Rhine Falls. The final section of the route takes you to the Schaffhausen along the Rhine.

The whole route can be completed in a day, although there are plenty of places to stop along the way to enjoy the views or grab a bite to eat.

What to see along the way

The route between Zurich and Schaffhausen is one of the most popular road cycling routes from Zurich. It is a challenging route with some gentle climbs, but mostly flat road. Along the way, there are several cute villages, Wine Producer, Forest section and farms.

The Rhin Falls is a must and an amazing spectacle. Huge volumes of water fall over the rocks across a width of 150m. Keep in mind is a popular weekend day trip and it gets crouded.

Schaffhausen is a beautiful medieval town with a well-preserved old city center. The highlight of the town is undoubtedly the Munot fortress, which offers stunning views over the Rhine river and into Germany.

Where to stop for a break

If you're looking for a place to stop and take a break while on your road cycling route from Zurich to Schaffhausen, there are some options available but most villages are small with limited bars and restaurants.

The best option is to have a breal in Schaffhausen, where you will have plenty of coffee shops and restaurants to refuel before heading back to Zurich
